This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Sunlane mobile application and its widgets.
1. Who we are
Sunlane is provided by Krzysztof Bonecki (“we,” “us,” or “our”). Krzysztof Bonecki is the data controller responsible for personal information processed in connection with Sunlane as described in this Policy. Apple is responsible for information it processes independently through its own services.
For privacy questions or requests, email krzysztofboneckikontakt@gmail.com or visit Support.
2. Summary
- Sunlane shows sunrise, sunset, day length, the sun’s position, solar noon, and golden and blue hour intervals. It supports saved cities, local notifications, and widgets.
- You do not need to create an account to use Sunlane.
- Saved places, their coordinates and time zones, your selected city, notification settings, and preferences are stored locally. Astronomical calculations run on your device.
- Location access is optional and helps you choose a place. Sunlane does not continuously track your location in the background.
- Place search and geocoding use Apple services, which may process information needed to answer your requests.
- Apple processes App Store purchases. RevenueCat helps display the Premium offer, verify and restore purchases, and manage Premium access.
- Sunlane also sends RevenueCat paywall display counters and information about the types, sizes, and number of widgets you configure. These statistics are linked to your RevenueCat App User ID. Saved city names and coordinates are not sent to RevenueCat.
- Sunlane does not contain third-party advertising or track you across other apps and websites.
3. Information stored on your device
Sunlane stores the following information locally:
- saved places, including city names, geographic coordinates, and time zones;
- the city currently selected in the app;
- local notification settings;
- app settings and preferences;
- information needed by the app and its widgets to display data for your selected places.
The app and its widgets share the data they need through Apple App Groups on your device. This allows widgets to use the same saved places and preferences as the app.
Sunrise, sunset, day length, sun position, solar noon, and golden and blue hour calculations are performed on your device using the relevant place and date.
Local storage does not mean that every feature works without external processing: Apple handles place search and geocoding, and RevenueCat receives the purchase information and usage statistics described below. Saved city names and coordinates are not sent to RevenueCat.
Apple may include app data in device backups according to your Apple Account and device settings. Backup storage, retention, and restoration are managed by Apple under its own privacy terms.
4. Optional location access and place search
If you allow location access, Sunlane uses your device’s location to help you choose a place. Sunlane does not continuously track your location in the background.
You can select a city manually without granting location access. You can change or revoke Sunlane’s location permission in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
Sunlane uses Apple MapKit and Core Location services for place search and geocoding, including converting a place name to coordinates or coordinates to a place. Apple may process the search text, coordinates, and other information needed to fulfill these requests under Apple’s own privacy rules.
Choosing a city manually avoids the need for GPS permission, but searching for that city may still send a request to Apple. These requests are separate from the astronomical calculations performed on your device.
5. Purchases and RevenueCat
Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment card details; we do not receive or store your payment card number or bank account details.
Sunlane uses RevenueCat, Inc. to display the Premium offer, verify and restore purchases, and manage access to Premium features. RevenueCat may process:
- a randomly generated RevenueCat App User ID;
- technical information about your device and app environment, such as device type and operating system;
- product identifiers and information about the products offered or purchased;
- Apple receipt and transaction information;
- purchase history, subscription status, and Premium entitlement status;
- the paywall display counters and widget configuration statistics listed in Section 9.
We use RevenueCat to:
- show the Premium offer and available purchase options;
- verify purchases and determine the access they provide;
- restore previous purchases;
- manage subscription and Premium entitlement status;
- understand use of the app’s features and the Premium offer through the statistics described in Section 9.
The RevenueCat App User ID links these records within Sunlane without requiring a Sunlane account. A random identifier does not make the associated information fully anonymous: purchase records and usage statistics remain linked to that identifier.
Saved city names and their coordinates are not sent to RevenueCat. RevenueCat processes the information we provide as a service provider and data processor on our behalf, under its agreement with us.
6. Apple services, notifications, and widgets
Sunlane uses Apple platform services for location access, place search and geocoding, App Store purchases, local notifications, widgets, and App Groups.
Notifications are scheduled locally on your device using your notification settings. You can manage Sunlane’s notification permission in iOS Settings.
Widgets use data shared locally with the app through Apple App Groups. Sunlane also reports the types, sizes, and number of configured widgets to RevenueCat for the analytics described in Section 9.
Apple processes information needed for its services under its own privacy policies. Apple may retain App Store transaction records independently of Sunlane or RevenueCat, including for accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations.
7. How we use information
Information is used to:
- save your places and preferences and display solar information for the selected place and date;
- help you choose places through optional location access, search, and geocoding;
- provide local notifications and widgets;
- display the Premium offer, verify and restore purchases, and manage Premium access;
- analyze use of features and the Premium offer using the RevenueCat statistics described in Section 9;
- respond to support and privacy requests;
- meet applicable legal obligations.
If you contact us, we process the email address, message, and any information you choose to include so we can respond and handle your request. Please do not include payment card details or other information that is unnecessary for your request.
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement with you to provide requested app features and purchase access, legitimate interests in understanding feature and Premium offer usage and handling support requests, and compliance with applicable legal obligations. Where consent is required, it is the applicable basis for that processing and may be withdrawn. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests as described in Section 11.
8. How information is shared
The external services involved in the processing described in this Policy are:
- Apple, for location-related services, place search and geocoding, App Store purchases, device backups where enabled, and the Apple platform features described above;
- RevenueCat, for the Premium offer, purchase verification and restoration, entitlement management, and the specified usage statistics.
Sharing data between Sunlane and its widgets through App Groups takes place on your device. It does not itself send that data to RevenueCat.
Apple processes information for its own services under its own privacy terms. RevenueCat processes Sunlane end-user information on our behalf under the applicable service agreement and data processing terms. We may also disclose information we hold where required by applicable law.
The information described in this Policy is not used by Sunlane for third-party advertising or tracking you across other apps and websites.
9. Tracking, advertising, and analytics
Sunlane does not contain third-party advertising and does not track your activity across other apps or websites.
Sunlane sends the following app usage statistics to RevenueCat:
- a counter of paywall displays opened from widgets;
- a separate counter of paywall displays opened from day details;
- a separate counter of other paywall displays;
- the types, sizes, and number of widgets configured by you.
A paywall is the screen that presents the Premium offer. These counters help us understand where that screen is opened. Widget statistics help us understand how widget features are used.
These statistics are linked to your RevenueCat App User ID and are used to analyze feature usage and the Premium offer. They are not described as anonymous analytics, because they are associated with that identifier. Reporting these statistics is separate from completing a purchase.
Sunlane does not send saved city names or their coordinates to RevenueCat. The analytics described here do not provide RevenueCat with your list of saved places.
10. Retention and deletion
Saved places, notification settings, preferences, and other local app data remain in your device’s app storage until you remove them through available app controls or delete the app’s data. To remove Sunlane and its local app data, use Delete App in iOS Settings. Offloading the app keeps its documents and data and is not the same as deleting them.
Copies of app data may remain in Apple-managed backups according to your settings and Apple’s retention rules. Restoring a backup may restore that data. Manage backups separately through your Apple Account and device settings.
Deleting local data or uninstalling Sunlane does not automatically delete information already processed by RevenueCat. Purchase and entitlement records are retained as needed to verify and restore purchases, manage Premium access, resolve purchase issues, and meet applicable legal or contractual obligations. Usage statistics are retained for analysis of feature usage and the Premium offer, subject to applicable data protection requirements and deletion requests. RevenueCat’s processing and retention are also governed by its agreement with us.
Support correspondence is retained as needed to respond to your request, follow up on the issue, and meet applicable legal obligations. We do not specify a fixed retention period for all data because the relevant purpose and obligations differ between records.
You can request access, correction, or deletion of information processed by us or by RevenueCat on our behalf by emailing krzysztofboneckikontakt@gmail.com. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify the request and locate the relevant RevenueCat record, such as the App User ID if available or a purchase reference. Do not send payment card details. We will handle the request under applicable law and instruct RevenueCat where appropriate. Some information may need to be retained to meet legal obligations or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Deleting app data, deleting RevenueCat records, or uninstalling Sunlane does not cancel an Apple subscription and does not delete records independently held by Apple. Manage or cancel your subscription separately in iOS Settings under your Apple Account, then Subscriptions.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live and the applicable law, you may have rights to:
- request information about processing and access to your personal information;
- request correction of inaccurate information;
- request deletion of personal information, subject to applicable exceptions;
- request restriction of processing or object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive a portable copy of information where applicable;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- appeal a decision about a privacy request where that right applies;
- complain to an appropriate data protection authority, including the Polish President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) where applicable.
To exercise your rights, email krzysztofboneckikontakt@gmail.com with the subject “Sunlane Privacy Request.” We may request only the information reasonably needed to verify and fulfill your request. Rights and any exceptions depend on applicable law.
You can manage local data on your device and revoke location or notification permissions in iOS Settings. Withdrawing a permission affects the features that rely on it and does not automatically delete records already held by Apple or RevenueCat.
Requests about information Apple holds independently should be directed to Apple using its privacy channels. Requests about Sunlane data processed by RevenueCat on our behalf can be sent to us.
12. International data transfers
Information processed by Apple and RevenueCat may be handled outside your country, including in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live. Locally stored Sunlane data stays on your device unless it is processed through a feature or backup described in this Policy.
RevenueCat’s Data Processing Addendum describes safeguards for transfers of customer personal data, including Standard Contractual Clauses for relevant transfers from the European Economic Area. Apple describes its international processing and transfer arrangements in its own privacy policy. You can contact us for information about safeguards applicable to Sunlane data processed on our behalf.
13. Children’s privacy
If you are a parent or guardian with a question about a child’s information in connection with Sunlane, or believe a child has provided personal information through a support request, contact us using the details below. We will review the request and handle access or deletion as required by applicable law. Apple manages its own account, permission, and purchase rules.
14. Security
Local information is subject to your device’s iOS storage and access controls. Apple App Groups provide shared storage for the app and its widgets within Apple’s app access controls. The security of local data also depends on your device settings and the security of any backups you enable.
RevenueCat describes encrypted network transmission and its other security measures in its privacy documentation. Apple applies its own security measures to its services. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
15. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to Sunlane, the services it uses, or applicable requirements. We will update the “Last updated” date and publish the revised Policy at this URL.
